about

Press:

“The music, designed by Kyle Preston, is otherworldly. Melancholic electronics sound as if they’re mimicking a string section. It’s patient — a sound for a leisurely stroll through a museum, perhaps.”

- Los Angeles Times

“An ambient soundtrack that Brian Eno would be proud of.”

- IB Times

“The zen-like score washes over you, and your consciousness begins to wander.”

- Pocket Gamer

About The Game:

prunegame.com

Prune is a love letter to trees. A game about the beauty and joy of pruning. With a swipe of a finger, grow and shape each tree into a unique piece of art while avoiding the obstacles that confront you. It was designed and developed by Joel McDonald, an independent game designer focused on making beautiful and interesting games.

The project got its start when a friend shared a simple tree generation script with Joel, planting a small seed of an idea in his brain. Joel started playing around with the idea just for fun, landed on a somewhat promising first prototype, and soon fell deeply in love with the game.

Currently, Prune is available on iOS.

My Involvement:

Prune has been THE best working experience I've had in games. I learned so much about myself, both my capabilities and limitations (oh my God the limitations) as an artist. The work on a very inspiring project like this, and being slightly insecure in some of my abilities, led me to throw as much time and effort into completing the process to create the best sound environment possible - because of this, I’d been secretive and withdrawn from some of you who reached out and displayed an interest.

For that, I apologize; the sound lab, with its alluring attractions, building electronic instruments, soundscapes, field recording, etc.... it can all be very seductive. But I promise, and thanks to the luxury of time, that those efforts produced some good work, in my humble opinion : )

This project required every skill I’ve ever learned about music and audio and I'm so happy to finally be able to share it with all of you.
